There is a special place in my heart for the Delta Colors. As a young boy these aircraft would pass over my house as they approached KSLC in the United States. Also using their airline for most family vacations, it’s still my favorite legacy airline.

If you can imagine your own airline that you love, whether that be Qantas for you Aussies, Ryanair for you Brits, or the many other airlines scattered across the world, you’ll know what it’s like to see an aircraft painted in your favorite colors.

All that said, I snapped a few shots of the PMDG 737 NGX is Delta Airlines -800 model with winglets for you ladies and gents.

These shots are loaded up in Denver, KDEN, with real world weather from REX. I chose this area because of the convective (thunderstorm) warnings. It makes for some pretty dramatic skies!

One thing I noticed in looking at the paint is that this repaint by PMDG is a little dirtier than the Alaska Airlines bird I flew last. The resolution of these textures is very impressive and I dare say immersive. It just looks real. That simple.

There also appears to be a matching power cart for each livery that I’m sure is customizable with the soon to come paint kit. I thought that was a nice touch! This cart showed up when I connected external power, something which is now done through the FMS rather than the PMDG Menu system, something they started with the MD11.

Reflections on the glass surfaces everywhere on the 737NGX has amazing reflection and behavior with light that I haven’t seen before. It’s really neat to see as you’re panning around the windows outside, and the instruments inside, that the light really does play off the glass as though it’s real.

If you ever have the opportunity to meet a real aircraft salesman, you’ll eventually hear them talk about something called ‘ramp presence’. How does the aircraft look on the ramp? Does it look stout and capable, or boxy and puny?

The 737NGX has incredible ramp presence. It’s something Nick on our team calls ‘true character’. This aircraft really exhibits that. It just looks and feels like it’s ready to go for a journey, longing to break the bounds of terra firma.

With thunderstorms rocking the area, this was a really good time to snap some shots of the 737NGX. Soon enough we’ll be doing regular and random flights checking out the capabilities of the aircraft and cross verifying with our real world knowledge, data, and manuals of the aircraft to make sure it’s all congruent. That’ll mean more airborne screenshots.

This process will continue as we forge on in our production of training. Although the 737 looks sleek and capable, it’s going to take a huge effort to teach you guys how to fly it. We love to sort through the difficult stuff, and then teach the curriculum through video in a way that makes sense and a way that mortals can wrap their head around.
