Well my friends, it’s been a long time coming. On behalf of the entire Angle of Attack Crew, I want to welcome you to the future of your training portal here at flyAOAmedia.com.
We’ve been in the process of making this happen for about a year now. Around late Summer in 2010, I started getting assistance from Matt Dunn on all things web design. Continually frustrated with our limitations with design, it soon became clear that someday- and we all hoped soon- we could put a full effort behind getting the site completely redone.
So up until this point a lot of you Angle of Attack Trainees have been promised a lot of new and great features, a faster loading website, and most importantly, easier navigation. We realized full well in planning this new website that all of these, and more, were things that just had to be fixed.
This website is a portal to literally the best flightsim training you will find. We don’t mean that in a cocky or self serving way. Rather, we stand behind our work here, the team that makes it and we know that we produce the best training content around.
That said, the website we had before just didn’t show that. It didn’t show the level of detail in the web design that we have in our video training products. Of course our products are great, as those who have them will attest to, but the website simply didn’t cut it.
Something HAD to be done.
In our planning, it wasn’t just about fixing all of these issues, however. Our focus was on a much higher plateau.
You see, we want to create an immersive experience here at Angle of Attack. This should be a place where you can easily get to your top-notch video training, experience our awesome and helpful community of virtual pilots, and also get direct input and assistance from us as you blossom into your future-epic-aviator-self.
We hope you enjoy this new website. We took great care and attention with the design, usability, and of course, the culture here at Angle of Attack.
From now on you’ll be met by your Aviator, flanked by the Angle of Attack wings. This all says so much about who we are, how we train, and what we believe Aviation is really about.
All we can say is, ‘Throttle On’ and enjoy clicking away at the new site.
Now for Some Business.
Work does not stop here. We already have a list of things we want to improve. The website will actually never really be done. This is because we keep a continuous desire to improve what we already have in all we do. We also keep an open dialogue with you, the Trainee, and things will be adjusted as needed for easier use.
That said, because the website is so new, we’d like you to keep a sharp eye out for any dead links, weird navigation, gremlins embedded in the code, or other equally as important and scary issues with the website as a whole.
There are two places to report issues:
- Right here in the comments.
- In our forums HERE
Future Updates & Evolution
We will be keeping a running list of these things, and will be chipping away at it at all times.
Apart from that, you’ll see some huge improvements coming to other areas as well… but not quite yet. Updates for Aviator90, AviatorPro and the 767 Training areas are coming very soon.
We will also be adding full iOS support soon. That takes a lot of background work with our video assets. Quite the task!
Shout Outs
Our ENTIRE team deserves a huge pat on the back for all they do, but we specifically want to mention members of our team here:
MATT DUNN
Matt hails from Canada and has quickly become an incredibly valuable member of our team with his persistance for simple and elegant design. This isn’t always easy, as we all have a tendency to want to add-add-add. The relaxed, elegant, and simple feel of the new design was conjured up by Matt. He had to often deal with a lot of silly requests, simple features, and constant bugs, but he really pulled through for us. I will tell you. If you aren’t familiar with how a website is create or built, it is a very complex and often frustrating process. Although Matt’s ‘art’ is mostly in the code he writes, it’s art nonetheless.
MATT STEVENS
Matt Dunn had already designed, artfully, the code of the website and how everything worked with today’s latest web trending technologies. But we needed something striking and powerful that really hits you straight in the face as soon as you land on the website. It should be an image that screams, “That is Angle of Attack! That is what they are about!”. This is where Mr. Matt Stevens comes in, from North Carolina. After a long and desperate search, we ran across his work and were instantly impressed. Next thing you know, Matt S is turning out a header design that absolutely took our breath away and screamed ‘Angle of Attack’ just like we wanted.
JORDAN KRUSHEN
Many of you know Jordan from his work in our very popular AviatorPro Training. Jordan is a VATSIM controller, but in a past life he was also a very capable and sought after IT professional. He is still at the professional and was pivotal in getting us through a lot of the backend craziness with turning the website from the /blog format we were stuck with for a while back to the MAIN website. None of this was easy, and he proved pivotal in the final battle that won the war against the tyranny of our old design.
NICK COLLETT
Nick doesn’t have any experience in any of the web areas, but he knows the core mission and purpose of Angle of Attack. For that reason he was in invaluable asset that would tell us ‘that looks crap’ when we needed to hear it, and helped us all keep perspective in what the final design and usability of the website should be.
All of these gentleman deserve a huge shout out. If you do nothing else, leave them a comment of praise, please. They ROCK!
That’s it, guys and gals! Have at it!
Throttle On!
